NeuroBell develops novel products for portable and wireless brain monitoring with integrated AI for neonatal seizure detection. NeuroBell is a spin-out of the INFANT Research Centre in University College Cork, building on years of ground-breaking research in the field of maternal & child health.

Our team is rapidly growing, and we are looking for an embedded systems firmware engineer to join our team. You will be heavily involved in the design and development of portable, wireless, and AI-powered EEG monitoring systems. You will be working closely with the CTO and the wider design team, which includes hardware, electronics, software, machine learning and quality engineers.

Responsibilities:

You will work on developing, optimising, and verifying the embedded systems firmware on NeuroBell’s flagship product, which includes working with analog sensors, co‑processors, and wireless technologies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Firmware design and embedded software for microcontrollers in C/C++.

Desirable:

  • Experience with STM32 Microcontrollers, FreeRTOS and baremetal C.
  • Experience with communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART, USB.
  • Experience with wireless protocols, in particular WiFi and 802.1X networks.
  • Experience with custom USB classes.
  • Experience with common peripherals/protocols (GPIO, TCP, mTLS, flash, FATFs).
  • Experience with debugging, SWD, GDB.
  • Knowledge of embedded security/cryptography.
  • Knowledge of electronics/PCB design.
  • Knowledge of medical device quality standards (ISO13485, IEC62304, IEC60601).
